The Women’s Center exists to assist all women in achieving their full potential in education, career and personal life through academic and intellectual growth, professional development and personal empowerment.
In addition to our mission of advocating women’s empowerment in all aspects of their lives, the Women’s Center is committed to ending sexual and gendered violence.
We provide direct services to survivors of sexual assault and relationship violence throughout all stages of the healing process, including immediate assistance following an incident/trauma, help navigating the reporting and legal processes, and supporting ongoing healing. Services for survivors may include individual support meetings with a trained staff member, help developing a safety plan, and referrals to additional campus and community resources.
The Women’s Center also collaborates with other UMBC organizations to promote anti-violence education and advocacy programming, particularly during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April and Relationship Violence Awareness Month in October. The Women’s Center helps facilitate anti-violence advocacy through:
● Feminist analyses of institutionalized and interpersonal violence
● Facilitated dialogues and events to counter rape-culture including skills related to consent and bystander intervention
● Presentations available upon request
Women’s Center professional staff members have been trained through intensive and extensive anti-violence programs that prepare us to compassionately work with survivors of interpersonal violence. Staff are committed to participating in ongoing training and professional development to ensure quality services to the UMBC community. Staff members have all received Safe Zone training.
Women’s Center professional staff members welcome any questions about specific programming and services we offer. You can reach us at our contact information below.
The Women’s Center provides services for and advocates on behalf of students of all genders and sexualities.
